釋曰：憂定有異熟者，憂根當知定有異熟，依唯、越義，頌說定聲。唯者，謂顯憂根唯有異熟也。越者，具二義故，越根次第，先說憂根也。言二義者：一、憂非無記，強思起故；二、非無漏，唯散地故。由此越次第，先說憂根定有異熟。

The commentary explains: "Grief definitely possesses ripening" means: the grief faculty, it should be known, definitely possesses ripening. Based on the meanings of exclusivity and transgression, the verse speaks the word "definitely". "Exclusivity" shows that the grief faculty exclusively possesses ripening. "Transgression" means: because it possesses two reasons, it transgresses the sequence of the faculties and grief is stated first. The two reasons are: first, grief is not unspecified, because it arises through strong deliberate thought; second, it is not untainted, because it belongs exclusively to the uncollected stages. Due to this, transgressing the sequence, it is stated first that the grief faculty definitely possesses ripening.
