憂見修所斷者，憂根與迷理惑相應，是見所斷，諸餘有漏是修所斷，非無漏故，不通非所斷。九唯修所斷者，九謂七色、命、苦，唯修所斷。七色、命根是無記性，不染污故。苦根與五識相應，非第六識生。前言不染非六生，色定非見斷，故此九根非見所斷，非無漏故，不通非所斷。

'Grief is abandoned by seeing and cultivation': the grief faculty, when associated with delusions that misconstrue principle, is abandoned by seeing; all other defiled instances are abandoned by cultivation; because it is not undefiled, it does not admit of being not to be abandoned. 'Nine are abandoned only by cultivation': nine refers to the seven material faculties, life, and suffering, which are abandoned only by cultivation. The seven material faculties and the life faculty are indeterminate in nature, because they are not defiled. The suffering faculty is associated with the five [sensory] consciousnesses and is not produced by the sixth consciousness. As stated earlier, being undefiled and not produced by the sixth, and matter being definitely not abandoned by seeing, these nine faculties are therefore not abandoned by seeing; because they are not undefiled, they do not admit of being not to be abandoned.
