5.29

釋曰：上句會名，下句用證。論云：「命體即壽，故《對法》言：『云何命根？謂三界壽。』」解云：既將壽釋命，故知命即壽。此復未了何法名壽，謂有別法能持煖與識，說名為壽。

The commentary says: The first line matches the name, and the second line verifies it by its function. The treatise says: "The entity of life is vitality; therefore the *Abhidharma* states: 'What is the life-faculty? It is vitality in the three realms.'" The explanation says: Since vitality is used to explain life, we know that life is vitality. Yet it is not yet understood what dharma is named vitality: there is a distinct dharma that is able to support heat and consciousness, which is spoken of as vitality.
