且初明名等者，論云：「此名身等何界所繫？為是有情數？為是非有情數？為是異熟生？為是所長養？為是等流性？為善？為不善？為無記？此皆應辨。」頌曰：
First, regarding the explanation of names and so forth, the treatise states: 'To which realm do these name-groups and so forth belong? Do they pertain to sentient beings or to non-sentient beings? Are they born of ripening, are they nurtured, or are they of the nature of outflow? Are they wholesome, unwholesome, or indeterminate? All these should be analyzed.' The verse states:
