The commentary states: "The four stations of consciousness" marks the title. The two words "one should know" carry over into the next line. As the sūtra says: "Consciousness dwells tied to form; consciousness dwells tied to feeling; consciousness dwells tied to ideation; consciousness dwells tied to conditioning forces. The four are that which is dwelt in, and consciousness is that which dwells; because they are dwelt in by consciousness, they are called the four stations of consciousness." "One should know they are the four aggregates" distinguishes their substance. Form, feeling, ideation, and conditioning forces are called the four aggregates; the defiled four aggregates constitute the substance of the stations of consciousness. "Of their own stage alone" means taking only the four aggregates of their own stage as substance, because the aggregates of one's own stage are appropriated by craving; consciousness, following the power of craving, relies upon and clings to them, thereby receiving the name 'station of consciousness.' If in another stage, there is no appropriation by craving, and therefore they are not stations of consciousness. Thus the śāstra says: "Consciousness does not, through the power of craving, rely upon and cling to the aggregates of form, etc., in a different stage."
