Regarding "as are the egg-born ever unconscious", the previous four states speak only of womb-born beings. For egg-born beings, throughout the three periods of entering the womb and so forth, they are unconscious; this is called "ever unconscious". "Ever unconscious" is identical to the fourth state of womb-born beings previously mentioned, hence the verse says "as are". Question: "How can egg-born beings be spoken of as entering the womb?" Answer: "Because egg-born beings must first enter the womb, it is spoken of based on the initial stage. Or it may be that the word 'egg' is spoken based on the future designation; that is, first entering the womb and later being born from an egg, the womb is called an egg based on the future designation. Just as when cooking raw rice one says 'cooking cooked rice', it is based on the future designation."
