[Regarding] 'and the undefiled that can exhaust them': 'Them' refers to what is to be countered; 'undefiled' is the counteragent. That is, undefiled karma can exhaust those previous three karmas, black and the rest, and is called neither black nor white. Because it is not defiled, it is called non-black; because it does not incur white maturation, it is called non-white. The treatise states: 'This expression "non-white" is an intentional statement, as when the Buddha in the Mahāśūnyatā-sūtra addressed Ānanda: "All the dharmas of an aśaikṣa are purely wholesome and purely white, entirely without fault" (Explanation: Since he says that the aśaikṣa is purely white, we know that calling undefiled dharmas "non-white" is an intentional statement, not an explicit one).'
