[As for] "Having relinquished, what is acquired is not the former": after relinquishing Heat and the rest, when one later cultivates and attains them again, that which is attained is definitely not what was formerly relinquished; one attains only what was not previously attained. Because the good of Heat and the rest has never been fully cultivated, requiring great preparation before it is cultivated and attained, one therefore attains what has not been attained before and does not attain what was formerly relinquished. If Heat and the rest were formerly relinquished due to passing through another life, upon meeting a skilled teacher of the Dharma who clearly understands the stages, one immediately gives rise to Summits and the rest. If one does not meet [such a teacher], one cultivates and attains them beginning anew from Heat.
