Rhinoceros-horn pratyekabuddhas and the Buddha, the World-Honoured One, definitely have no transference of nature in the stages of Heat and the rest. This means that these two noble ones, relying on the fourth dhyāna, achieve awakening on a single seat; therefore there is no possibility of transference. In Sanskrit, it is called bodhi, which is translated here as "awakening." Bodhi in the three vehicles all takes the knowledge of exhaustion and the knowledge of non-arising as its essential nature. "A single seat" means that from the stage of Heat until bodhi, they do not rise from the seat. Because the fourth dhyāna is an unshakeable, most extremely sharp samādhi, it is fit to serve as the support for the rhinoceros-horn [pratyekabuddhas] and buddhas.
