Furthermore, that school's teachings have five repositories of phenomena: the three times constitute three, the unconditioned constitutes the fourth, and the self is the fifth inexpressible repository. When the self is in saṃsāra, it is inexpressible whether it is identical to or different from the three times; when it enters nirvāṇa, it is also inexpressible whether it is identical to or different from the unconditioned; therefore, they establish this self as the inexpressible repository. Refuting this: 'If the self is inexpressible as being different from the preceding four repositories of phenomena, then it should not be stated to be the fifth repository of phenomena. If the self is inexpressible as being identical to the preceding four, then it cannot be stated to be not the fifth. That which is not the fifth is precisely the preceding four repositories of phenomena. Since both the fifth and what is not the fifth are inexpressible, one should only establish the preceding four repositories of phenomena.'
