即為五：初明自性，依眼、了別色者，此中且說不共所依，識相難了，舉所依因及所了果，而顯自性。

It comprises five: first, explaining the intrinsic nature: "depending on the eye, discerning form." Here, it provisionally states the unshared basis; because the marks of consciousness are difficult to understand, it adduces the basis as cause and the discerned [object] as fruit to reveal its intrinsic nature.
