若依名種與所詮法,互相繫屬為所緣者,即非現量。若但能緣名句文身,所有自類而不緣,彼相繫屬境,亦有現量,是故五識雖緣長短等,假亦是現量。
If one takes as one's cognitive object the mutual attachment between name or universal and the expressed phenomenon, then it is not direct perception. If one merely apprehends the collection of words, phrases, and syllables in its own intrinsic kind without apprehending the object of their mutual attachment, it is also direct perception. Therefore, although the five consciousnesses apprehend [such objects as] long and short which are conventional, they are still direct perception.
