答:依三藏言:釋論略譯應五百卷,總譯有八百許,故釋論一解,八識雖具心、意、識三,而於意地約別名識,識既六識,意根六,故不說八、七。

Answer: Relying on the words of the Tripiṭaka Master: 'An abridged translation of the Commentary would be about five hundred fascicles, and a full translation would have roughly eight hundred; hence one explanation in the Commentary is that although the eight consciousnesses possess all three—citta, manas, and vijñāna—in the mental stage they are named consciousness according to their distinct designations. Since the consciousnesses are six consciousnesses, the mental faculties are six; therefore, the eighth and seventh are not mentioned.'
