In the third passage, it says that having exhausted the fruit induced by previous karma, one who performs unwholesome deeds sees the preliminary signs of the intermediate existence, 'like the latter part of the day'—when the sun is about to set—'or like the shadow of a mountain peak': for an inferior-grade evil-doer, the future sign is like the shadow of a peak hanging overhead; for a medium-grade, it is like a mountain completely covering; for a superior-grade, it is like the latter part of the day, maximally covering. Or, for the inferior-grade, it is like the shadow of the latter part of the day covering; for the medium-grade, like a mountain completely covering; for the superior-grade, like the shadow of a peak maximally covering. These are the signs of future fruit seen when about to die due to previous evil karma.
