Fourth, in explaining the signs of moistening rebirth, Master Jing and others explain: Generally speaking, there are two times of moistening: first, at the stage when about to end life, craving moistens karma and one receives intermediate existence; at the final mind of intermediate existence, giving rise to craving that moistens definitely causes one to receive birth-existence. Arising and receiving at these two times is solely abandoned through cultivation. Therefore, the fifth fascicle of the Abhidharmasamuccaya says: This love for one's own body is solely innate, of a veiled-indeterminate nature; since this love for one's own body is concealed, one should know that it is not an affliction that initiates karma. Since the Abhidharmasamuccaya says: Innate [affliction] can sometimes initiate unwholesome actions because it is unwholesome; this is innate craving.
