Eleventh, its manner of movement: one with evil karma whose eyes gaze downward purely is born in the three evil destinies; although it sees the place of birth, it sees it as supremely pure, and for that reason rejoices in being born; if it saw foul characteristics, it would not rejoice in being born. Therefore, the *Kośa* says: 'Devas have their heads upward, the three [middle destinies move] horizontally, and hell beings have their heads facing downward.' This text together describes hell beings as having their faces gazing downward, not that their heads do not point downward; it is just that their downward gaze is similar to the other two destinies, and so they are described together.
