Therefore the Abhidharmakośa states: The Bodhisattva Śākyamuni, in the first asaṃkhyeya, met seventy-five thousand World-Honoured Ones, the last meeting a Buddha named *Jñānaśikha*; in the second asaṃkhyeya, he met seventy-six thousand World-Honoured Ones, the last meeting a Buddha named Dīpaṃkara; in the third asaṃkhyeya, he met seventy-seven thousand World-Honoured Ones, the last meeting a Buddha named Vipaśyin. Having crossed the three asaṃkhyeyas, he entered the hundred kalpas—meaning water, fire, and other kalpas—to cultivate the karma resulting in the marks, encountering two Buddhas during thirty-two kalpas, namely Śikhin Buddha and Viśvabhū Buddha. As the Fo ming jing states: This Vipaśyin, as well as Śikhin and Viśvabhū Buddhas, equally belong to the thousand Buddhas of the past Alaṃkārakalpa, but do not share a single kalpa of water, fire, etc. From this, one will know that the Bhadrakalpa is also not a single kalpa of water, fire, etc. Therefore, the Sūtra of Contemplating the Two Bodhisattvas Bhaiṣajyarāja and Bhaiṣajyasamudgata states: At that time, Śākyamuni Buddha told the great assembly: 'I recall in the past, during the semblance Dharma of Prabhāprabhāsa Buddha, I left home to practice the path. Hearing the names of fifty-three Buddhas, joy arose in my mind; instructing one another successively, we reached three thousand people, who with one voice and common tune recited their names and prostrated, eliminating immeasurable offenses. The first thousand people, with Prabhāketu Buddha at the head down to Viśvabhū Buddha, are the thousand Buddhas in the past Alaṃkārakalpa. The middle thousand people, with Krakucchanda Buddha at the head down to Rucika Tathāgata, are the thousand Buddhas in the Bhadrakalpa. The latter thousand people, with Sūryaprabha Tathāgata at the head down to Sumeruketu, will attain Buddhahood in the Nakṣatrakalpa.'
