Among the seen, heard, sensed, and known, regarding "verbal expression based on the known": that is, each individually internal, what is received, what is realized, what is touched, and what is attained. Master Jing says: The ear faculty and ear consciousness are termed what is received; the nose and tongue faculties and consciousnesses are termed what is realized; the body faculty and body consciousness are termed what is touched; and what is attained by the mental consciousness, expounded for others, is termed verbal expression of the known. In general, this extends through these four: fascicles 19 and 13 state that seeing and knowing are direct perception, hearing is exclusively authoritative testimony, and sensing is inference.
