"The not already abandoned eye" refers to the aforementioned eye that was not to be abandoned, because it is also not already abandoned now. One's own eye is called internal; another's eye is called external. That of the desire realm is called coarse; that of the form realm is called subtle. The fruition of unwholesome karma is called inferior. Past and future are called distant; present is called near. The "discriminating ear" extends to both the physical and divine ears.
