10.333

第四越菩薩法，碎求異道，深心實翫，非如辛藥而習近之者，景云：如為除病服辛味藥即著辛味，為識邪宗暫之須披談即愛邪論，又味藥有除病用，外道邪論無生智用。又言非如辛藥而習近之。

Fourth, transgressing the bodhisattva Dharma to exhaustively pursue heterodox paths, deeply enjoying them in heart and reality, rather than engaging with them as one would with bitter medicine. Jing says: It is like taking bitter-tasting medicine to remove a disease and immediately becoming attached to the bitter taste; or temporarily opening and perusing heterodox doctrines in order to understand them, and immediately becoming fond of heterodox treatises. Furthermore, medicinal herbs have the function of removing disease, whereas heterodox non-Buddhist treatises lack the function of generating wisdom. It also says: 'not engaging with them as one would with bitter medicine'.
