初五門文，則為五。一、約智斷出菩提體下，名自性；二、約最勝以辨菩提；三、約十號隨念功德以辨菩提；五、約差別等德以辨菩提，前後三：初、約二智二斷；次、約三智二斷；三、約共不共德。

The text of the first [section on] the five approaches is divided into five: first, presenting the essence of bodhi in terms of wisdom and abandonment below, which is called 'nature'; second, differentiating bodhi in terms of supreme excellence; third, differentiating bodhi in terms of the recollection of the virtues of the ten epithets; fifth, differentiating bodhi in terms of distinctions and other virtues. [Regarding the first approach,] before and after there are three [explanations]: first, in terms of the two wisdoms and two abandonments; next, in terms of the three wisdoms and two abandonments; third, in terms of shared and unshared virtues.
