Ji says: '"Namely, the precursor to the path of calm abiding of the four practices" is the first, which is preparatory wisdom; the precursor wisdom among the preceding four calm abidings includes the tainted [wisdom] of hearing and thinking. Considering the wisdom of the four practices of calm abiding, in fact, the contemplation simultaneous with the first calm abiding is preparatory wisdom, which is also subsumed under this first [category]. Free from the grasping of superimposition is the second, and free from the grasping of deprecation is the third; these two are non-conceptual wisdom freeing oneself from the two extremes. "And conforming to... established guiding principles" is the fourth, subsequent attainment wisdom. These four wisdoms are present on every ground; distinguishing and correlating them individually is somewhat difficult.'
