In explaining the initial expedient, the passage from 'bodhisattvas...' up to 'moreover, being able to conform to the samādhi-doors that comprehensively take all as object...' explains conforming. From that point below, it reconciles [the teachings]. Conforming means conforming to them; reconciling is done to explain what the sūtras state, because one conforms to generating their joyful aspiration by expedients and taking them comprehensively as object. Within conforming, first is endearing speech, which is pleasing words; next is giving, which is also 'further actualizing and engaging in conforming through close-giving', etc. 'Conforming through close-giving' means producing giving in accordance with need to draw them close; or 'close-giving' means practicing the means of attraction through giving to draw them close, and 'engaging in conforming' means the means of attraction through beneficial identity: through giving wealth and companionship, one eliminates the malice that has arisen in them, etc. From 'generating affection and respect' downward explains beneficial action. 'Manifesting supernormal powers, revealing teachings', etc., are the three miracles.
