In Sanskrit *pakṣa*; this word contains three meanings: first, the meaning of stage/position; second, the meaning of distinct classification; third, the meaning of wing. The old title was "Chapter on Wings," which means that practicing the four dharmas allows one to quickly attain fruition, just as a bird relying on wings quickly arrives at its destination. Now, based on those two parts of bodhisattvas, lay and monastic, it is designated as the "Chapter on Parts." The basis of the five characteristics is not apart from the two parts of lay and monastic; therefore, following the Chapter on Characteristics, the Chapter on Parts is discussed next.
