摩怛理迦者，為本母。今此論中，解十住義，與彼經說十地，為摩怛理，謂經有論故，義則易解也。
A mātṛkā is a matrix. Now in this treatise, explaining the meaning of the ten dwellings serves as the mātṛkā for the ten stages expounded in that sūtra; that is, because the sūtra has the treatise, the meaning is easily understood.
