Now, following the preceding, we divide it into nine clauses. The first clarifies that with the practices of the nine stages completed, one is capable of entering the tenth stage as a consecrated king, which the Daśabhūmivyākhyāna calls the division of completing the stage through expedient means. As the sūtra says: If a bodhisattva possesses such immeasurable knowledge, knowledge of skillful contemplation, and so forth, up to the knowledge of skillful explanation in the ninth bodhisattva stage, skillfully fulfilling pure and bright dharmas, and so forth, up to being named as having attained the rank of receiving the all-aspect omniscient knowledge. The Daśabhūmivyākhyāna's explanation of the division of completing the stage through expedient means is that the activity of the knowledge of skillful explanation from the first to the ninth stages should be known; this knowledge of skillful explanation has seven aspects: first, because of skillful cultivation, there are three clauses—as the sūtra says, skillfully fulfilling pure and bright dharmas, gathering immeasurable dharmas that aid the path, and skillfully grasping great merit and wisdom. Below there are six aspects corresponding to the subsequent six clauses of the sūtra, extensively explained as in that text.
