攝生為初故言第一。就五品內，初有三品辨自分行，次有一品辨勝進行，後有一品對行辨果。前中有二：初有二品正辨自分行，後之一品辨行所依地。前中復二：初明五生利眾生行，後明六種攝眾生行。

Subsuming birth comes first, hence it is called the first. Within the five chapters, the first three chapters distinguish the practices of one's own division; the next chapter distinguishes the practices of superior progress; the final chapter distinguishes the fruition in relation to the practices. Within the first, there are two: the first two chapters directly distinguish the practices of one's own division, and the last chapter distinguishes the stages on which the practices rely. Within the first, there are again two: the first clarifies the practices of the five births benefiting sentient beings; the second clarifies the practices of the six ways of gathering sentient beings.
