攝益自他階級名地，前明生攝二品是行，行必依故次明地品。文中有三：初明攝十三以為七地；二、明初地離惡趣因緣；三、明十種淨修地。

The gradations of gathering and benefiting oneself and others are called 'stages'. The previous explanation of the two chapters on birth and gathering treated practice; because practice must have a basis, the Chapter on Stages is explained next. There are three parts in the text: first, explaining the subsumption of the thirteen into seven stages; second, explaining the causes and conditions for the first stage being free from bad destinies; third, explaining the ten stages of purification.
