In explaining the ten powers, the text is divided into two: first, individually distinguishing the cognitive objects of the ten powers; second, at the beginning of the next fascicle, comprehensively making distinctions via seven gates. In the former: first, listing the names; later, explaining them in order. Relying on the *Viniścaya* below, the ten powers have as their essence yathāvadbhāvikatā (quantitative knowledge); relying on the statement of their self-nature at the beginning of the next fascicle, the five faculties in general are taken as their self-nature. Because wisdom is predominant, it only speaks of the power of the knowledge of the possible and impossible, etc., and does not speak of the power of faith and the other powers; because they take the ten objects as cognitive conditions, they are named the ten powers, deriving their names from the objects.
