八言說句六種略行者,泰云:略說六行故云六種略行,舊云六種同行者,同義與略義相濫,故謬譯也,八種之事可為言詮,故言八言說句。景云:言說所詮廣即無量,略有六行。於八言說中,後三合一同是壽量,故但有六。

Concerning "the eight expressive phrases and the six kinds of summarized practices," Tai says: "Because it summarizes and expounds six practices, it is called six kinds of summarized practices. The older translation's 'six kinds of shared practices' confused the meaning of 'shared' with that of 'summarized', hence it was an erroneous translation. The eight kinds of things can serve as verbal designations, therefore they are called the eight expressive phrases." Jing says: "The referents of verbal expression are immeasurable if broad, but in summary there are six practices. Among the eight expressive phrases, the latter three combine into one, all being lifespan; hence there are only six."
