As for "beginners," Jing says they are the ten faiths. Formerly, Master Yuan said: from the provisions for concentration downward there is entirely no instruction, which is inferior to the previous explanation. There are eleven provisions: 1. purely maintaining moral discipline; 2. obtaining good spiritual friends; 3. guarding the sense-doors; 4. knowing moderation in food; 5. reducing sleep; 6. being endowed with wholesome investigation; 7. being endowed with faith and resolve; 8. being endowed with the practitioner's lot; 9. being endowed with bases of liberation; 10. being free from the three hindrances; 11. abandoning the mind of grasping. They are detailed in the *Tattvasiddhi-śāstra*. Now, "provisions" comprehensively encompasses those eleven.
