12.483

一、地施設安立，謂於十七地中此文以十一地全五地小分為此地體所以者何，五地之中且如無心地中有五位無心，謂無心睡眠無想定及報滅盡定入無餘依涅槃界等，今唯取前四位除無餘依涅槃故言一分是此地體。

First, the designation and establishment of the stage: within the seventeen stages, this text takes eleven stages in full and a minor portion of five stages as the essence of this stage. Why is that? Among the five stages, taking for instance the mindless stage, there are five states of mindlessness: mindless sleep, the mindless absorption and its retribution, the absorption of cessation, and entering into the realm of nirvāṇa without remainder. Now, it takes only the first four states, excluding nirvāṇa without remainder; hence it says that a portion is the essence of this stage.
