基云：末那以諸門分別，如諸德章可解，緣八為我我所。有二說：一、即緣五為我，緣所為我所，此非正義，各別緣故；二說、即直緣我是我見，為我家之我是我所。

Ji says: Manas is differentiated according to various approaches, as can be understood in the essays of the various masters; it takes the eighth [consciousness] as self and what belongs to self (ātman and ātmīya). There are two explanations: first, that it takes the five [aggregates] as self, and takes what belongs to them as what belongs to self; this is not the orthodox doctrine, because they would be cognized separately. The second explanation is that it directly cognizes the self as the view of self, and takes what belongs to one’s own family’s self as what belongs to self.
