基云：西方二說：一云，護月第八上變為他身；二、護法不然，謂第八為二變謂根等令身見等，此是不共相業感，二亦共相感，令他見等，故名增上緣。

Ji says: There are two explanations in the Western region: one says, in Candragomin’s view, the eighth [consciousness] transforms into the bodies of others; second, Dharmapāla disagrees, maintaining that the eighth consciousness effects two kinds of transformations: one is sense faculties and so forth, causing the view of the body and so forth, which are induced by karma of uncommon characteristics; second, it is also induced by common characteristics, causing others to see it and so forth, which is why it is called a sovereign condition (adhipatipratyaya).
