Herein there are two kinds of karma: common and uncommon. However, within the common there are two: the common within the common, and the uncommon within the common. Just as a single external vessel world is commonly cognized and used by others, it is called the common within the common; items such as clothing are used exclusively by oneself, and although others have the potential to use them, which is termed common, one’s own karma of use is predominant, so it is called the uncommon within the common. Within the uncommon there are also two: the uncommon within the uncommon, and the common within the uncommon. For example, regarding one's own eye faculty, other consciousnesses do not rely upon it, only one's own consciousness relies upon it, so it is called the uncommon within the uncommon; its supportive physical elements and the like are brought about by one's own uncommon karma, yet they are also transformed by the eighth [consciousness] of others, which is the common within the uncommon.
