Regarding the three times of the characteristics of dharmas: taking for example the present seeds, through the meanings of "future" (to be) and "past" (having been), the dharmas of the three times are spoken of. This is just as established regarding seeds in the third [fascicle] above; this is identical with active dharmas (samudācāra). However, because seeds are constant, they are said not to be active dharmas. Below, the second [fascicle] states that the present has three marks: first is the fruit-mark of the past; second is the cause-mark of the future; third is its own present seed. The characteristics of dharmas are precisely this.
