言第四者，此有二釋。一云，離三界染即開為三，永害助伴名為第四。二云：前說遠離等三，今說永害助伴，即名第四，準次下卷云：問前已說損伏染法種子，善法種子損伏等何？答：若常殷熏習善相違諸染污法是初損伏，若執取耶見多習耶見如諸外道是第二損伏，若多唯習邪見誹謗如斷善根者是第三損伏，若能永害染法種子，如前已說，是第四損伏。

Regarding "the fourth": there are two explanations. One says: separation from defilements of the three realms is divided into three, and permanently destroying companions is called the fourth. The second says: previously the three, such as separation, were taught; now permanently destroying companions is taught, which is called the fourth. According to the fascicle immediately following: "Question: Previously the weakening and suppression of seeds of defiled dharmas has already been explained; what is the weakening and suppression of seeds of wholesome dharmas? Answer: If one constantly and intensely perfumes defiled dharmas that are contrary to the wholesome, this is the first weakening and suppression; if one grasps wrong views and extensively practices wrong views like the outsiders, this is the second weakening and suppression; if one extensively practices solely wrong views and slanders, as when severing wholesome roots, this is the third weakening and suppression; if one is able to permanently destroy the seeds of defiled dharmas, as previously explained, this is the fourth weakening and suppression."
