問曰：此宿業為長為短，若長應自生何須滋，若短延何故長，即現業招，應是現報。

Question: Is this past karma long or short? If long, it should arise of itself, so why must it be nourished? If short, when prolonged, why does it become long? That would be recruited by present karma, and thus should be present retribution.
