As for 'or without deliberation': this applies to both concentration and distraction. As in mindless sleep, mindless fainting, or being born in the heaven of non-conception—these are without deliberation in distracted states; if entering the two mindless concentrations, these are without deliberation in concentrated states. As for 'or accompanied by investigation and reflection': this applies to both concentration and distraction. Thus, in states of concentration or distraction that are without deliberation, if there is a tactile external condition at the body, because there is no deliberating mind among the six consciousnesses, only the neutral feeling of the ālayavijñāna receives it within, which is called 'bodily feeling'. If in a distracted mind in a state with deliberation, because the ālayavijñāna holds the five faculties and the seeds of bodily feeling associated with the five consciousnesses, if it encounters an external condition, bodily feeling can arise.
