Answer: In the Mahāyāna, past and future dharmas do not exist; when present consciousness arises, it must function, so there is no need to discuss 'of the same class' and 'of that class.' The present five faculties continue in their own kind: if they unite with consciousness to apprehend the object together with consciousness, they are called 'of the same class'; if they do not unite with consciousness, they are called 'of that class.' The five dusts are merely what is grasped, not what grasps, unlike the five faculties which may not be able to grasp; therefore they are also not discussed as 'of the same class' and 'of that class.' Ce says: Other than 'of the same class,' it is called 'of that class.' Now explained, it has two meanings: first, being different from 'of the same class,' it is called 'of that class'; second, 'of the same class' is called 'that,' and because it is of that kind, it is called 'of that class.'
