Ji says: It means that mental consciousness enhances language and is able to produce speech, hence it is called contact designated by language. Regarding contacts associated with the three sensations, they are named "conforming to pleasure," and so forth; these three also subsume contacts exhaustively. Next, contacts associated with affection and anger do not subsume contacts exhaustively. Next, the three contacts such as luminous contact also subsume contacts exhaustively: luminous contact refers to the taintless; non-luminous refers to the unwholesome and the indeterminate; neither-luminous-nor-non-luminous refers to wholesome tainted contact. The "eight kinds of contemplation" are as explained among the eight contemplation gateways in the section on "skilfully knowing the world" in the Chapter on the Factors Leading to Awakening in the Bodhisattvabhūmi.
