The tenth gate among the ten gates explains the gate of separation. Jing says: "Form in the desire realm is coarse and sparse; the great elements of the form realm make up the interior of the body, just as water enters sand. The locations are not different, yet because their kinds of nature are distinct, they are not inseparable in the same locus; that is the meaning of being separated and not inseparable. However, separated and inseparable mostly refer to the retributive and nourished forms belonging to the same stage from beginning to end in the same aggregation. Because these forms bound to the higher realms abide within the body of the desire realm, this is not the meaning of separated and inseparable."
