三、明定體，即於第四定九品厭心種子上有遮心義假立無想定體，無心寂滅持身不動故云唯滅唯不轉，若於方便求定之時，先入第四定，九品心法增下至中乃至第九名邊際定，此定滅後無想定生。

Third, explaining the substance of the absorption: upon the seeds of the nine grades of mind weary of conceptualization in the fourth dhyāna, there is the sense of blocking the mind, which is nominally established as the substance of the absorption without conceptualization; because the mind is absent and quiescent, holding the body motionless, it is therefore said to be 'only cessation, only non-functioning.' When applying expedients to seek the absorption, one first enters the fourth dhyāna, where the nine grades of mental factors increase from lower to middle up to the ninth, called the culmination absorption (prāntakoṭika-dhyāna); after this absorption ceases, the absorption without conceptualization arises.
