Some explain: "Here, rebirth-existence serves as the basis for fundamental existence, fundamental existence serves as the basis for death-existence, and death-existence serves as the basis for intermediate existence, because prior-time existence is just intermediate existence." Among the five feeling faculties, joy, pleasure, and equanimity are the bases for attachment toward agreeable objects and so forth; suffering and grief are the bases for disagreeable objects and so forth; equanimity connects to both.
