七、明得四果。得預流果或一者，謂未知根，此據總也。或八者，即信等五意捨及未知根，總別合說也。或二、或九、得一來果者，若次第人，依已知根得。若超越人，依未知根得，故言或二。二上加行信等五根及意捨，是故成九。

Seventh, clarifying attaining the four fruits. Attaining the fruit of stream-entry with 'either one' refers to the faculty of what is not yet known, which is based on the general [faculty]. 'Or eight' refers to the five beginning with faith, mind, equanimity, and the faculty of what is not yet known, speaking of the general and specific together. Attaining the once-returner fruit with 'either two or nine': if one is a gradual person, it is attained based on the faculty of having known; if one is an超越 [leaping] person, it is attained based on the faculty of what is not yet known; hence it says 'either two'. Adding the five faculties beginning with faith and mind and equanimity to the two makes nine.
