The first is morsel food: when it undergoes modification and deterioration, it nourishes the faculties and great elements. The second is contact nutriment: because contact relying on pleasant objects sustains and benefits the physical support. The third is mental volition nutriment: because the power of focusing thought on anticipating pleasant matters sustains and benefits the physical support. The fourth is consciousness nutriment: because by the sustaining power of the storehouse consciousness, the body is able to endure. Why so? Because if separated from this consciousness, the body that serves as its physical support would rot and deteriorate. A portion of three aggregates, eleven realms, and five bases constitutes nutriment.
