今依此文自有兩解。一云，一切獄卒皆非有情，以論云如化非眾生故。二云，獄卒有二。一者、焰摩使者即有情數；二者、眾生業力所生，同在地獄令受苦者是非有情。

Now, based on this text, there are inherently two explanations. One says: All hell wardens are insentient, because the treatise says they are like apparitions and not living beings. The second says: There are two kinds of hell wardens: first, the messengers of Yama, which belong to the category of sentient beings; second, those born of the karmic power of sentient beings, existing together in hell to make them suffer, which are insentient.
