Among the conceits regarding the four objects, it briefly does not explain [the first]. Conceit arisen from the first view, conceit regarding sentient beings, refers to "the three classes of conceit, etc.," meaning inferior, equal, and superior: regarding the inferior thinking them inferior, and regarding the equal thinking them equal, is simply named conceit; regarding the equal thinking oneself superior, and regarding the superior thinking oneself equal, is named excessive conceit (atimāna). Treatises such as the Mahāvibhāṣā only say 'regarding the equal thinking oneself superior' and do not say 'regarding the superior thinking oneself equal'; various masters regard this as an obstacle, but in principle it must be present. Regarding the superior thinking oneself superior is named conceit surpassing conceit (mānātimāna); regarding the greatly superior thinking oneself only slightly inferior to them is named inferior conceit (ūnamāna).
