Fifth, clarifying whether the object-substance exists or not, and whether it is partial or pervasive. Master Jing and others explain: Regarding "furthermore, the ten afflictions abandoned through seeing are called objectless, etc.," because among those abandoned through seeing, the objects taken by the view of individuality, the view of extremes, and the conceit of 'I' do not exist, and the remaining afflictions arise taking the object of the view of individuality, therefore all afflictions abandoned through seeing are called objectless. Regarding "the remaining afflictions have objects, lack objects, etc.," among the afflictions abandoned through cultivation, the view of individuality, the view of extremes, and the conceit of 'I' arise taking non-entities as objects, while the remaining greed and the like abandoned through cultivation arise taking pure and impure real entities as objects; hence they are called having objects and lacking objects.
