次辨意識分別，但貪以為欲相，由意分別令貪現前，由意分別受用事欲，故取分別俱貪名為欲相，總相說為一妄分別貪。又有一分外道棄欲出家，仍於事欲起妄分別，為令知虛妄分別亦是欲已，尋復棄捨故，說分別亦是欲相。

Next, distinguishing the conceptual discrimination of the mental consciousness, it is merely greed that constitutes the characteristic of desire. Because mental discrimination causes greed to become manifest, and because mental discrimination enjoys objective desires, greed conjoined with discrimination is taken as the characteristic of desire, collectively spoken of as a single greed of false discrimination. Furthermore, there is a class of non-Buddhists who renounce desire and go forth into the homeless life, yet still give rise to false discrimination regarding objective desires; in order to cause them to understand that false discrimination is also desire and thereupon immediately abandon it, it is said that discrimination is also a characteristic of desire.
